An Alabama teacher arrested after shooting daughter's boyfriend in the chest



An Alabama teacher,Fitzgerald Bouvier McQueen, 50, has been arrested after he allegedly shot his daughter’s 18-year-old boyfriend in the chest.

Fitzgerald Bouvier McQueen, 50, is accused of blasting the teenager inside his home in the early hours of Thursday morning.

McQueen, a fifth-grade teacher at Heritage Elementary School in Madison, has been charged with first-degree assault in the shooting.

According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, the teen was a family friend who had a romantic relationship with McQueen’s daughter, a minor.

The boy was rushed to nearby Huntsville Hospital, where he was being treated for wounds that weren't considered life-threatening.


Family members identified the victim as Jaizon Collins,Additional charges may be filed in the case at a later date, investigator Jeremy Hughes said.

McQueen has been a teacher for more than 18 years and describes himself as “active in my church and the community” in his biography.

District spokesman John Peck confirmed McQueen has been put on paid administrative leave.

McQueen was booked into Madison County jail in lieu of $15,000 bond, reported AL.com.

In a letter sent to parents, Madison Superintendent Dee Fowler detailed how the school would handle his absence.

"Short term solutions for Dr. McQueen's classes have been set into motion and long-term plans are being made," Fowler wrote.

"Dr. (Georgina) Nelson, the principal at Heritage, is committed to providing the best solution to these challenges and working to ensure that there are no gaps in teaching and learning.“
