American rapper Eminem, surprisingly topped the musical vocabulary
list, using about 9,000 unique words in
his songs. Varun Jewalikar and Nishant Verma, compiled the record together for
the lyrics site Musixmatch, looked at 93 artist across 25 genres from pop to
new age.
Eminem topped the
list with 8,818 unique words used followed by Jay Z with 6,899, late Tupac
Shakur with 6,569 and Kenye West with 5,069. Certain criteria were weighed like
vocabulary size(the number of unique word across and language used by an artist
in some fewer densest song across their career), lyrical density(the total
number of words used) and new word interval(number of word after which a new
word is used). This can not be used to grade their performance it gives us a peek into the minds of different song writers.
